How to Spot—and Fix—Environmental Barriers to Your Goals

Hey Reader!

Friday night already? Hooray! This week has been a ride. I just wrapped up my annual purge (you’ll see that list in the article), and let me tell you, it felt so good to clear stuff.

Meanwhile, Minnesota decided to remind us all who’s boss with a brutal cold snap—temps dropped to -40°F. So yeah, I spent most of the week snuggled up by the fireplace with a pot of water steaming on the stove to fight the Sahara-dry air. Good grief, right? 🙅🏼

Oh, and about that article! This week’s journal has a fun twist. It was actually written for the Morning Chalk Up and will be hitting their site before the end of the month. But guess what? You guys get the sneak peek.

This week’s theme? Our environment. In my journal sneak peek, I'm exploring more on physical environment (we chatted last week a bit on our support systems). Give it a read, then swing back here for more insights!

In this weeks newsletter:

  • The Sneaky Ways Your Environment Sabotages You: How your space might be working against you (and how to fix it). Plus, a challenge to clear the chaos.
  • Insights: Last week’s reflections hit home—learning to speak up, pat yourself on the back, and let go of needing everyone’s approval. Powerful stuff!
  • What’s Up This Week: Studying for my L3, seminar updates with Kim, and trying to stay focused while the news was… a lot. Oh, and the CrossFit Open.

The Sneaky Way Your Environment Sabotages Your Goals (and How to Stop It)

Your environment could be silently sabotaging your progress—but with a few smart tweaks, you can turn it into your greatest ally.

Now that you've read that...

🤔 QUESTIONS TO CONSIDER

  1. What’s one tool or item in your space that could be upgraded to make your life easier?
  2. Are there any cluttered or chaotic areas that might be draining your energy or focus?

GIVE IT A GO

Use these questions as journaling prompts or a way to reflect on how your surroundings might be nudging you—positively or negatively.

🏆 YOUR CHALLENGE THIS WEEK

Pick one space in your environment that feels overwhelming—your pantry, fridge, or even your workout area. Dedicate 20–30 minutes to decluttering, organizing, or designating it for a specific purpose (like a meal-prep zone or a movement corner).

At the end of the week, notice how the change impacts your mood, decisions, or stress levels. Celebrate that progress—yes, even organizing that junk drawer counts!

KEEP IN MIND

Small, intentional changes to your environment can reduce stress and make showing up for your goals easier.

Hit reply and share how you optimized your space this week or ask me a question—I’d love to feature your story in an upcoming edition (and don’t worry, your name stays between us).

BEAN THERE, LEARNED THAT.

On last weeks newsletter I asked you to tell me how it went or how I could help.

Here's how it went:

  • "I figured out I really needed to get better at talking about what I was doing. At first, I didn’t want to explain anything. I just wanted to focus on my goals and do my thing. But when I actually started opening up and sharing why this was important to me, the people who genuinely cared started to understand. Not gonna lie, though, not everyone got it, and that stung a little. But I had to remind myself: not everyone’s going to be on the same page, and honestly, that’s okay...."

  • "I used to sit around waiting for someone else to notice the progress I was making, like I needed their approval to feel good about it but it’s nice to pat yourself on the back and say, you’re doing a good job. You don’t need anyone else’s validation for that..."

SPILL THE BEANS: QUESTION OF THE WEEK

Are you doing the CrossFit Open this year?

Maybe! Honestly, it’s a bit like last year—my goals are different right now. When your body is constantly changing, it’s tricky to get a true baseline or measure progress the same way others might. Right now, I’m focused on showing up for myself, staying consistent, and making sure my training aligns with where I’m at in this season of life.

The Open is always tempting, though, so… we’ll see! I've done just about every year since 2018.

☕ FRESHLY BREWED: WHAT I'M READING OR WATCHING

This week was a mix of studying for my L3, revamping seminar stuff with Kim (because apparently, we can’t resist tweaking things), and getting caught up in the news which is something I don't normally watch. Big changes for the country this week—don’t worry, I’m not about to dive into politics, but wow, it was hard to miss. I mean, even my coffee seemed extra caffeinated just to keep up!

Next week, I’ll be sharing last year’s big goal—how it went, where I landed, and the plan to keep moving forward with focus. Let’s keep growing together. Until then, take care
